In China, most ambulances have gradually adapted to the strict National IV or National V emission standards since 2019. However, with rising environmental awareness, the country is planning to implement the stricter National VI emission standard around 2023, which is divided into two phases, A and B.
The National VI A standard requires the following emission targets for ambulances:
Carbon monoxide emission limit of 700 milligrams per kilometer for gasoline vehicles.
The non-methane hydrocarbon emission limit is 68 milligrams.
The NOx emission limit is 60 milligrams.
Fine particulate matter (PM) emission limit is 4.5 mg.
And when it comes to the National 6B stage, the standards are even more stringent, as specified:
Carbon monoxide emissions from gasoline vehicles are reduced to 500 mg.
Non-methane hydrocarbons are reduced to 35 milligrams.
NOx emissions to the same 35 milligrams.
Fine particulate emissions reduced to 3 milligrams.
These standards are designed to protect the environment and drive the automotive industry towards a cleaner, more sustainable direction, which is important in alleviating the global environmental pollution problem.
As standards are upgraded, ambulance manufacturers must continue to upgrade their technology to meet these increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
